Burel was initially used only in places where it was produced and where
its raw material comes from. Made of pure lambswool, this material served as a coat
to the residents of Portugal’s coldest towns and villages, especially in the
countryside. Burel was used to protect shepherds from the harsh climate.
Recently rediscovered by contemporary creators it is now starting to be used for many different purposes due to the high quality of the material. It protects you from the cold but also from heat and moisture (it’s waterproof). It is also ecological, natural and sustainable.
We're starting to see this material in various products, namely wallets, jackets, chairs, sofas, clothing, jewelry, rugs, blankets and even interior coatings.
